2009 Area Rep. Report by
Judy Wanner
This year we successfully produced 6 Bronze and 2 Silver shows at
5 different host sites: Langford Church Stables, Drummer Hill
Stables, Reschburl Equestrian Centre, Fox Run Stables, and
Center Line Equestrian. The Glanbrook executive extend our
thanks to the owners, Murray Hisey and Dana Karczewski, Donna
Heyman, Dieter Werner, Regina Schmitter and Family, and Heather and Andrew Warner for their
generosity in providing us with facilities that allowed members
and guest riders to compete in a safe and professional
environment and for putting up with all the extra work that
hosting a show entails.
I would also like to thank the many people who volunteered their
time to work at the shows. The volunteer response was very good
this year with new and old friends of Glanbrook pitching in to
help. Signe Schnaar was at the secretary’s desk at every show
and Judy Lessard, winner of our 2009 volunteer award, was the
whipper-in no one escaped from and also a very efficient
announcer at our last show. We have tried to acknowledge all our
volunteers in our individual newsletter show reports and I hope
we haven’t overlooked anyone because the shows are completely
dependent on volunteers.
In addition to volunteer time members also provided prizes. Don
Barnes again sponsored a Vintage Award for Glanbrook riders
admitting to being over 39, Mary-Joe Figueira donated stock pins
for high point winners, and show hosts Regina Schmitter and
Heather Warner organized prizes for all the classes held at
their stables. Our sponsor DreamRidge Tack Shop also contributed
to our prizes, as did Wellington Tack and Fox Run Horse
Products. The Rider Encouragement Award we are able to provide
at every show is the result of profits from the annual Jon
Costin clinic which this year was hosted by the Warners at
Center Line Equestrian. Jon has donated his time for member
clinics for several years and this fall was joined by Don Barnes
for a combined clinic with both riding instruction and judges
comments.
Our major purchase this year was a new 20x60 dressage ring
allowing us to retire our infamous white buckets. The new one,
white pylons with white chain, not only looks much better but is
even more portable than the buckets and more easily stored in
Glanbrook’s official storage unit – my garage. We plan to buy
new letters in the coming year. We are able to afford these
improvements because we have had very well attended and successful,
although sometimes very wet, shows this season and our financial
situation at the moment is quite healthy.
Although we are well ahead financially we are still a
bit behind in executive member numbers. S usan Anderson, our
treasurer is also wearing the newsletter editor’s hat and has
taken on management of the web site as well. Present executive
members will continue for 2010 but we would happily welcome some
new faces on the executive to share in the planning and running
of our activities. If any member reading this is interested and
would like to volunteer or to attend a meeting to see what we do
(only about 4 a year) contact me. We would be happy to have
you.
In closing I would like to congratulate all of our competitors
who came out and showed the results of all the time spent in
lessons and practice with their equine partners, thank our
judges for their insightful comments and long hours of
officiating and our steward Brenda Delano, and also recognize
the family members who support our riders in so many ways
throughout the show season.
May your holidays be happy, the winter mild, and your horses
healthy. I look forward to seeing you all again at our 2010
shows.
